Dr Jonathan Shapiro

Jonathan is Senior Lecturer, Department of Public Health and Epidemiology, University of Birmingham. Jonathon has had a career that spans Natural Science, Medicine and NHS management, all of which have had an academic flavour. After 10 years as a GP he became the Independent Medical Advisor  to an FHSA and was involved in the development of the purchaser/provider split and the involvement of clinicians in the running of the health service through initiatives such as GP fundholding and total purchasing. His work has included the developing the role of Primary Care through  Birmingham University's Health Services Management Centre and being Chairman of the Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health NHS Trust. He also chairs the International charity Education for Health.

Gail worked in the NHS for over 30 years latterly as an Executive Director at Barts and the London NHS Trust. She trained as a general nurse at St Bartholomew’s Hospital before undertaking a course in Renal Nursing at the Royal Free Hospital. After a number of senior nursing posts within London she moved into management taking a Masters in Health Management at City University, before becoming Director of Operations at BLT. Since leaving Barts and the London she has worked as an independent consultant in healthcare. Gail was a member of the team that produced the Independent Review of NHS and Social Care IT Commissioned by Stephen O’Brien MP, Chaired by Dr Glyn Hayes

John is a Consultant Director at 2020health and an independent expert in NHS IT and telehealth, having been intimately involved in its development continuously over the last 25 years. During 2010, John has written two influential and authoritative reports on how the NHS must make better use of technology : Fixing NHS IT: A plan of action for a new government and Healthcare without walls – a framework for delivering telehealth at scale. His passion for healthcare IT began in the mid 1980s when he project managed one of the first successful NHS implementations of a hospital-wide electronic patient record. As a pre-eminent management consultant in the field, he has held leadership roles in the healthcare practices of major systems integrators and consultancies at UK and European level. Through his work, he has gained deep experience of NHS culture, processes, people and systems. He has personally advised over 100 different NHS Trusts and acted as a core advisor at a national level to two published NHS IT strategies in the 1990s. John is a graduate in economics and management science from St John’s College, Cambridge.

Dr Mark Martin

A former anaesthetist at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington (now part of Imperial College), Dr Mark Martin set up Cavendish Medical Ltd in 2005.

Unable to find his own financial adviser who understood the intricacies of the NHS scheme, Mark realised he could do a better job. He spent one year on sabbatical working in the City and never returned to clinical practice. After working in finance for 17 years including time spent at Citibank, Allianz and Lincoln, Mark co-founded Cavendish and specialises in pensions advice.
